Zoning, Licensing & Construction (ZLC)

The Zoning & Licensing Committee supports NEWRA’s mission to preserve, protect, and enhance the character of the North End by reviewing:
Proposed construction, renovation, and use changes that are not in full compliance with Boston zoning codes or may impact existing neighborhood patterns;
External development projects that may affect the North End;
Applications for local alcohol and entertainment licenses.
The ZLC monitors applications pending before state and city agencies and maintains relationships with the Boston Planning Department and the Zoning Board of Appeal, the Licensing Board, the Mayor’s Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, and others. A ZLC representative provides testimony or submits written comments to report the positions taken by NEWRA members.
The ZLC holds separate monthly public meetings, typically on the fourth Tuesday of each month, and all are welcome to attend.
